DOWNDERRY STORES

When the owners of Downderry Stores announced the shop was closing on 4 September 2023, DaSRA convened a public meeting on 17 July when residents voted for a Steering Group of local residents to be formed to assess the viability of a community shop opening in Downderry. An important first step was to gather the views of residents on if/how they would use and/or support such a shop so a questionnaire was delivered to every household in the Deviock parish.

ts first months, the Steering Group has developed its own website, Facebook and email system and a bi-monthly Newsletter , with funding from DaSRA's Community Fund. In Jan 2024, Downderry Community Shop was formally registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a Mutual Benefit Society. Negotiations continue to secure a potential site that could accommodate a community shop. Click here to read  the latest developments

A range of alternative sites in Downderry have been set up to offer essentials - newspapers collections; a range of groceries: post office outreach service; Nut Tree newsletter: Paul Bray Butcher delivery. Click here to find details

The Zone

Aug 2025. Message from the DAG Team - Deviock Activities Group.

Hi Everyone
As you are probably aware the Zone will sadly be closing on Tuesday 12th August & we are very grateful to the Anglican Church down the road for welcoming any of the groups who wish to relocate there.
As from Wednesday 13th Aug all DAG groups will move there along with all Dance sessions - Jill's & Emma's, the W.I. & Bread and Babes
The Methodists are refusing to sell to the Steering Group, even though they had agreed that we were their preferred purchaser. They have never been told how much they wanted for it. The  Group continues to fight & have not given up hope for a future purchase.
If you have not yet signed the petition please do so.

Deviock Activities Group is now operating from St Nics Church, just down the road from the Zone, opposite the school. We are still in communication with the Methodists about buying the Zone. In the meantime we are very grateful to our Anglican friends for making space for us.

Please note there are some changes to days & times for our groups.

We hope you will be able to continue to support our activities & encourage friends to come too, as new members are always welcome.

Message about the future of the Zone

Following the decision of the Methodist Church to put the Zone up for sale, the Zone Management Group is working towards gaining ownership of the building as a Community and Wellbeing Hub. In December 2024 Cornwall Council endorsed their ambitions with a grant of £80,000 from the county's Community Investment Levy  (CIL) Fund.
