All About DaSRA

Downderry & Seaton Residents Association - working

in association with Neighbourhood Watch

DaSRA is neighbours working together: listening, supporting, and

shaping a positive future for Downderry and Seaton. Everyone is

welcome to be part of it.

History of DaSRA (Downderry & Seaton Residents Association)

The Downderry & Seaton Residents Association (DaSRA) was formed to give the people of our two coastal villages a clear, collective voice. What began as a small group of neighbours wanting to protect the character and wellbeing of the community has grown into a long‑standing, trusted organisation representing residents on the issues that matter most. In its early years, DaSRA focused on ensuring that local concerns were heard by parish and county councils. Planning proposals, changes to village services, and the protection of valued community assets quickly became central to its work. As the villages evolved, so did the Association’s role—moving from a reactive group responding to challenges, to a proactive one shaping the future of Downderry and Seaton. A significant moment in DaSRA’s development came in July 2021, when Downderry & Seaton Neighbourhood Watch formally joined forces with the Association. This partnership strengthened community representation, bringing together two volunteer‑led groups with shared aims: safety, connection, and the wellbeing of residents. From that point on, DaSRA became the umbrella organisation representing the whole community of Downderry, Seaton, and the surrounding hamlets. Over the years, DaSRA has supported countless local initiatives—from safeguarding public spaces to championing sustainable development, improving communication between residents and authorities, and helping nurture the social life of the villages. Its volunteer committee continues to work behind the scenes, managing finances, liaising with councillors, coordinating community engagement, and ensuring residents stay informed and included. Today, DaSRA remains proudly non‑party‑political and rooted in fairness, openness, and neighbourly care. Membership is open to every household, and associate membership welcomes those who care about the villages even if they live beyond them. What has never changed is the Association’s purpose: neighbours working together to protect, support, and celebrate the life of Downderry and Seaton—now and for generations to come.

DaSRA Purpose.  DaSRA exists to help our two villages thrive. Guided by the constitution, fairness, openness, and neighbourly care, we work together to protect what makes Downderry and Seaton special. Click here to view our constitution.

We represent the interests of local people, making sure residents’ voices are heard on the issues that matter, from planning proposals to safeguarding community assets and supporting sustainable development.

But DaSRA is also about connection.
We help strengthen the social life of the villages, collaborate with local

groups and make sure people feel informed, included and valued. This

includes working alongside Downderry and Seaton Neighbourhood Watch,

supporting their community‑led efforts to promote safety, awareness and

neighbourly care. We encourage residents to sign up as members to

Neighbourhood Watch, it’s free, helps strengthen our shared vigilance,

and only takes a moment. You can join via the official scheme page:

We are proudly non‑party‑political, and encourage residents to become DaSRA members. Membership costs £12 per year and helps strengthen our shared voice and support the work we do on behalf of the community.

Behind the scenes, a volunteer committee keeps everything running smoothly. Finances, communication, engagement and liaison with councillors - all driven by a deep love for our coastal home.

In essence, DaSRA is neighbours working together to support, safeguard and celebrate village life, now and for generations to come.
