DOWNDERRY STORES
When the owners of Downderry Stores announced the shop was closing on 4 September 2023, DaSRA convened a public meeting on 17 July when residents voted for a Steering Group of local residents to be formed to assess the viability of a community shop opening in Downderry. An important first step was to gather the views of residents on if/how they would use and/or support such a shop so a questionnaire was delivered to every household in the Deviock parish.
ts first months, the Steering Group has developed its own website, Facebook and email system and a bi-monthly Newsletter , with funding from DaSRA's Community Fund. In Jan 2024, Downderry Community Shop was formally registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a Mutual Benefit Society. Negotiations continue to secure a potential site that could accommodate a community shop. Click here to read the latest developments
A range of alternative sites in Downderry have been set up to offer essentials - newspapers collections; a range of groceries: post office outreach service; Nut Tree newsletter: Paul Bray Butcher delivery. Click here to find details
